Bonner Library is growing a book character pumpkin patch that will decorate our library at the end of this month. I am looking for no-carve, decorated pumpkins (painted, accessorized or dressed) that represent a favorite book character or book. Please make all entries kid-friendly/not too scary. Also, if you completely paint your pumpkin, please drill a small hole for gasses to escape. This helps prevent explosions! Some characters have come to an unfortunate end this way. You may also use a craft pumpkin instead of real. I will be picking the top 5 most original pumpkins on the morning of October 28th to win a prize! Please bring your pumpkin into the library between October 21st – October 25th so we can display all the fun characters through the last week of October and your student can grab their pumpkin no later than the 30th to display at home for Halloween. I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful ideas!

These former fifth graders pose with their certificates for successfully competing in the ARTEMIS ROADS 11 NASA National Student Challenge for the year 2023-2024. For the project they experimented with growing plants in lunar soil, coding an autonomous robot, as well as designing and testing different rocket designs. In addition, they collaborated on designing a mission patch and a lunar habitat. They had to do research and consider the many factors that would impact human life on the lunar surface. They did a great job and were able to communicate with NASA scientists, and an actual astronaut. We are all proud of them.

Mrs. Zentgraf's 3rd grade class is finishing up a unit on animals through time! We had so much fun digging up "fossils", creating our own fossils and using fossils as clues to figure out what type of habitat was present when those animals lived there. We also really enjoyed using math to decide if we could outrun a dinosaur!

Epic field trip last week at Fort Missoula! 6th grade explored artifacts big and small with museum experts, including a former Bonner board member (thanks Mr. Kuehn!) We got to tour the Bonner streetcar that existed before the bus line, a working saw mill, and some Timberjack memorabilia (filmed in 1955 in Bonner). We also couldn't resist a visit to the one-room schoolhouse. A special thanks to the Bonner Milltown History Center for helping us make it happen.

Students encountered a real-life opportunity to show GRIT today. They acted with great integrity and thoughtfulness when an injured hummingbird crash landed under a tree at recess. Giving it plenty of space, students called over a teacher and asked what to do. After making an even wider circle to give the bird even more space, the little guy flew haphazardly up into the tree. A little while later he crashed back down, still a bit stunned. A teacher then helped safely transport him to a location outside the playground where he flew off. Students’ compassion and quick thinking helped keep the hummingbird safe.
