Mr. Huisken would like to give a HUGE congrats to Barb, who won a $500 gift card to Sportsman's Warehouse as part of our 8th Grade Close Up fundraiser. 8th graders sold nearly 9,000 raffle tickets to raise money for our annual spring trip. Mrs. Quinn picked the winning ticket and we are happy to see the prize go to such a supportive community member! 8th grade families have also been cleaning the Griz Stadium. Our Lumberjacks got GRIT!

After reading, researching, and writing about Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, both second grader classes were tasked with designing their own ‘balloon’ for our Balloons Over Bonner display. We learned that it’s true what they say - to be a Macy’s ‘Balloonatic’ you must be: part artist, part engineer, and never grow up.

A team of fifth graders will represent Bonner at MSU early next year as we participate in The Northwest Earth and Space Science Pathways (NESSP)/NASA National Student Challenge program. The program is affiliated with NASA’s ARTEMIS ROADS II missions. It offers students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to design their own NASA mission with hand-ons activities. Fifth graders will build a rocket considering the concepts center of mass and center of gravity along with other relevant rocket related terms. They will build and program an autonomous rover using Lego SPIKE Prime, and conduct an experiment simulating cultivating plants and living on the moon. Through research they will learn about the many technological advances and challenges currently being explored by NASA.

“The Artemis Missions are NASA’s exciting plans to return humans to the Moon! They have an amazing team of astronauts, including engineers, biologists, geologists, oceanographers, physicists, pilots, and doctors. Among them will be the first woman and person of color to set foot on the Moon. NASA wants to learn more about the Moon’s environment and improve its spaceflight abilities through robotic and human-crewed missions. By the end of the Artemis missions, NASA hopes to have a community of astronauts living and working on the Moon.”

Pumpkin Character Patch
Bonner Library is growing a book character pumpkin patch that will decorate our library at the end of this month. I am looking for no-carve, decorated pumpkins (painted, accessorized or dressed) that represent a favorite book character or book. Please make all entries kid-friendly/not too scary. Also, if you completely paint your pumpkin, please drill a small hole for gasses to escape. This helps prevent explosions! Some characters have come to an unfortunate end this way. You may also use a craft pumpkin instead of real. I will be picking the top 5 most original pumpkins on the morning of October 28th to win a prize! Please bring your pumpkin into the library between October 23rd – October 26th so we can display all the fun characters through the last week of October and your student can grab their pumpkin the 27th to display at home over the weekend. I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful ideas!
The WHITE and GREEN volleyball teams ended their seasons last week with games at DeSmet and Valley Christian. It was a fun season for both teams and big improvements were made by each player! Go Jacks!

The Bonner Lumberjacks ended their Cross Country season this week with the Runner’s Edge All City Meet at the Linda Vista Golf Course. All of our runners exceeded their own expectations and really ran hard. It's amazing what the excitement of race day can do to your pace! As a coach, I could not be more proud of my runners this season! Cross country is challenging! Each day these kids showed up to practice and gave their all- they set goals and they had great attitudes! There were countless personal records set this season! Many of the athletes shaved a minute or more off of their mile pace over the season. There were also quite a few top 10 placements in school records this year! Awesome work to Emily M., Charlie G, Braeden C, Jack G, and Conner P for earning a spot on those record boards! A special Congrats to Charlie Gruber on his 5th place finish at this meet- with a time of 12:02, he set a school record for the fastest 2 mile ever recorded at Bonner School. In his 8th grade season he also set school records in the 1.5 mile, the 2500 meters, and the 1.6 mile. Way to go Charlie! What impresses me so much about this young man is that before each race Charlie has a clear vision of how he wants to place- he does research and sizes up his competitors. He is realistic with his goals, but is also ambitious, and it really pays off. You are an inspiration, Charlie! The end of a season is always bittersweet for the athletes and the coaches! I'm already looking forward to next season! Way to go Jacks!
